Several months ago, a friend of mine was planning to open his family business in Jakarta. He asked me to do the website and the food photography as well. The product is Bakpao Boldy, which is quite famous in Malang – East Java and was started in 1950 on Boldy street (now Jl. Mangun Sarkoro). They currently have several branches in Malang, Surabaya, and now they’re in Jakarta.

Bakpao Boldy comes in several kinds of fillings: minced pork, minced chicken, ayam kecap, babi kecap, kacang hijau, tausa and kacang tanah. Among those fillings, my favorite is minced pork. The meat is tasty, and the dough has a smooth and fluffy texture. They’re best eaten warm for breakfast with several cups of good tea. So if you want to try it, head over to the Pluit area.     Ini Boldy memang terkenal di Malang / Surabaya udah puluhan tahun. Dan memang enak lah yg isi minced pork.
    But your friend is not the original owner, they just bought the recipe from the original owner.
    In Malang cost only 6000 each, here 9000. Wonder why?
    For a bakpao of that size….its just too expensive.
    Once more, in Malang when you buy, they packed one by one with plastic, here they dont want to do it.

    Setuju sama minced pork.. nyumy.. Jajanan dari SD,Haha.. Malang sama jakarta pastinya beda bro.. di malang daging sekilo cuma berapa, di JKT semua serba mahal, gaji tukang nya juga di Malang masi murahh,.. bisa rugi kali ye yang jualan di jkt.. =D

    hmm.. di Malang selalu pakai besek dan daun pisang masi traditional sekali, dan plastik satuan on request.
    Di jakarta smua packaging nya uda lebi modern (mungkin ini yg nambah cost juga kali yee) dan plastik satuan juga available..

    Ownernya stau ku pergi keluar negri dan resepnya diberikan ke saudara dekatnya..

    @Andy & @Kim: setuju kalo ongkos produksi/sewa tempat mempengaruhi harga jual, jadi ngga mungkin disamakan harga jual di Malang dgn Jakarta

    Satu hal yg menjadi concern saya sebenarnya sih pemakaian kantong plastik untuk kemasan bakpao (pack one by one) boros plastik bgt jadinya & ngga ramah lingkungan. Sama juga sih halnya dgn produk2 bakery2 skarang, boros plastik bgt πŸ™
