I don’t usually accept invitation to food tasting events, but last week I received invitation to attend a media luncheon celebrating the winner of Indonesian Global Sushi Challenge with the Norwegian Minister of Fisheries. It was too good an opportunity to pass, plus the winner is one of my favorite sushi chefs from Umaku Sushi Resto (read the review HERE, HERE and HERE)

Indonesian Global Sushi Challenge was held last August 2015 where 18 sushi chefs from Indonesian well-known restaurants competed to win a spot at the Global Sushi Challenge 2015 to be held in Tokyo this month.
Chef Slamet Basuki or more known as Chef Uki won the Indonesian challenge with his creation “salmon sushi with lemon miso”

So I was honored to be invited to this media luncheon at Umaku Sushi Resto on Duren Tiga with the Norwegian Minister of Fisheries, Elizabeth Asparker, Norwegian Ambassador for Indonesia, Stig Traavik & Regional Director for Norwegian Seafood Council, Jon Eric Steenslid.

During the event, Chef Uki demonstrated how he made his winning dish “salmon sushi with lemon miso”. He was assisted by the Norwegian Minister of Fisheries and the Norwegian Ambassador for Indonesia. After that Chef Uki also demonstrated several kinds of salmon sushi.

It was very interesting and after that we’re treated with several types of salmon sushi and sashimi dishes.
The feast started with edamame and salmon & wakame salad, several types of sushi including the ‘salmon sushi with lemon miso’ which was my favorite as the lemon miso was light, refreshing and complemented the salmon without being too overpowering. And it was ended with a choice of either ogura or matcha ice cream.

Overall it was yet another great experience at Umaku Sushi. Thanks to Edelman for organizing this event and best of luck for Chef Uki in Japan.
