One weekend about two months ago, we went to Goemon at Kyoei Prince office building. There are several Japanese restaurants in the building since most of the tenants are Japanese, so we had high hopes that this place will serve authentic Japanese dishes. The building was quite empty as it’s weekend, but the restaurant has several guests that were sitting either in the tatami area or in the regular dining table. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is unmistakeably Japanese with a neat and minimalist look and feel.
The menu were mostly set menu packages. So, we ordered a saba no shioyaki teishoku / さばの塩焼き定食 (grilled mackarel with salt set menu) 65K for SC. I was interested in Oden/おでん (boiled vegetables in soy sauce), but didn’t want the whole set menu, so I asked the waitress whether I can just order the oden. Luckily, I can. My Oden came first, consisting of tofu, daikon/ダイコン (radish), shitake mushroom, konnyaku/蒟蒻 and boiled egg in light soy sauce. There was also some kind of mustard as condiment. It tasted delicious, the soup had a light and soothing taste, and although it was mostly vegetables, it was quite fulfilling.
SC’s Shioyaki came later and accompanied by a bowl of rice, miso soup, salad, pickled, steamed vegetables and a pack of nori. The fish size was quite generous (don’t be fooled by the picture) and tasted great too. Overall we enjoyed our meal at Goemon and looking foward to go back there soon 🙂
