Last weekend, when SC & I spent our afternoon at the Citiwalk Sudirman, a friend suggested that we try Negiya Donburi which recently opened at Citiwalk. Just like the name suggested, Negiya Donburi serves donburi, Japanese rice bowl dishes with meat/vegetables served over rice. There are several donburi types to choose from, including beef togarashi don, negiya gyu don, spicy chicken don, chicken teriyaki don, and ebi katsu don, but their specialty is gyutan don (牛タン丼) which is Japanese grilled beef tongue served over rice. According to their twitter account, Negiya Donburi collaborated with O-Bento Group Melbourne, the people behind Menya Ramen Melbourne with its popular gyutandon.
We headed to Negiya Donburi for an early dinner, and found that they offer gyutandon in a set menu for 110K and a-la carte for 78K. We decided to order the a-la carte one. We also saw that they serve infused water for 17K, so we ordered that too. Our menu arrived quickly and from the aroma and presentation, the dish looked promising. As I love spicy meal, I asked for extra slices of chili. They also provide us with togarashi (Japanese chili peppers) and la-yu (chili oil) to add to our preference. The ox tongue was delicious, thinly sliced, seasoned well and grill perfectly. It would be a perfect dish if only the rice they served was warm. All in all, Negiya Donburi is a nice addition to Jakarta’s Japanese food scene. I hope they can maintain the quality if they decided to open elsewhere in Jakarta.
