Kafe Star

Several months ago, on our way home, we stopped by a place located at Jl. Panjang called “Kafe Star” for dinner. The place look quite spartan but clean compared to the cafe2 tempat nongkrong we always found in the mall. They served a various selection of Javanese cuisine such as : rawon dengkul, rawon daging, garang asem ayam, timlo solo, tahu pong, tahu telur, racikan selat, garang asem, lontong opor, nasi opor, nasi langi, nasi bakmoy, nasi bakpuy, nasi lodeh empal, nasi pecel tumpang, pecel tumpang, nasi pecel, pecel telur, gado-gado, tahu acar, sosis kecap, rambak petis, and unique drink list such as : es lengkeng sarang burung, es dawet, es beras kencur, es asem off course they also got a normal drink list like es jeruk & friends. on weekend they also served : nasi liwet, bistik lidah sapi, botok teri, gadon daging sapi.

On the table there was a plate of traditional snacks like : sosis solo, and several kue basah/jajan pasar. we ordered : nasi bakmoy & nasi lodeh empal, 2 types of Lumpia Semarang and I ordered es beras kencur turned out I can’t stand the Jamuish taste, so I swapped mine with SC’s hot tea . The bakmoy and lodeh tasted good, but I don’t really like the Lumpia Semarang‘s taste. it had a very strong ‘bamboo shoot smell’. I had lumpia semarang before, but I don’t remember that it has such a trong smell. What do you think?

    Jenz, jl.panjangnya di deket mana ancer2nya? Yg paling enak dari Kafe Star ini masakan apa? soalnya pilihan menunya banyak juga yah(dominan masakan Jatim en Jateng ya? eh tapi ada gado2 betawi juga ya?).
    Kalau lumpia semarang gw suka beli di Food Court Puri Indah Mal (paling pojok deket yg jual toge goreng bogor), tapi makin lama makin mahal tuh skrg kalo gak salah @IDR7.000-an tapi enak kog, ga bau2 menyengat/pesing gitu πŸ˜‰

    @michelle> katanya sih ini cabang dari kafe star solo: ancer2nya kalo dari arah pondok indah menuju daan mogot, ada di seblah kiri jalan sesudah apartemen kedoya.
    menu2nya kebanyakan emang masakan jawa tengah : semarang – solo. gado2nya kayanya bukan gaya betawi deh. gw blom cobain semua sih, jadi ga bisa bilang mana yang paling enak.

    I might seem shameless here (maybe I am hehe) but I sell lumpia semarang.
    Chica udah pernah cobain dulu. I wanted to give Jen some sample but I don’t know how to get in touch with her.
    Anyway, iya gak semua orang doyan baunya rebung karena kadang suka bau bgt (bau pesing).

    fave aku di kafe star tuh bistik lidah n sosis solo-nya.. nasi liwet n nasi langgi-nya jg ok. es cendolnya juga enak.. kebetulan yg punya kenalanku n aku cukup sering mampir disitu πŸ™‚

    have you try their “telor asin” n “kremes ayam”? impor dr solo langsung lho, yummy abizz.
    fave gw: susis solo, n nasi langgi. must try!

    It should not have that amonia smell if its process properly, the secret of a delicious lumpia is in the ingredients and process. Why don’t you try the Lumpia from Bamboo in Jl. Bendungan Jatiluhur No.74 – Bendungan Hilir area, next to Dr. Titi Moertolo. its really good I guarantee you.

    All the lumpia Semarang I’ve tried have that weird smell… I don’t know if you’ve heard of a place called ‘Depot Surabaya’. They make really delicious, authentic East Javanese food. I’d definitely recommend it if you haven’t tried it before =)

    You should try East Java Lumpia laa, the original lumpia Indo.It’s not about the origin but the tasste.
    Once I ordered Lumpia Semarang but they put IKAN ASIN in filling, yuhie,I can’t have fishy smell,yuck and I asked,the owner said, it’s IKAN MAHAL,yuhi and bumbu also with bau ikan..I don’t care mahal,I don’t eat it at all !!
    About the bamboo shoot,the smell, they can’t cook.
    In East Java, they completely used veggei and meat , yummy taste also not with that IKAN saos..but abit sweet salty bean as usual Chinese there like it.
