Katsusei

I’ve been searching for a perfect katsudon (カツ丼, rice topped with deep fried pork cutlets, eggs and various condiments) ever since I’ve read Banana Yoshimoto’s novel: Kitchen last year (yes, I was practically drooling when I read that book). Fortunately there are a lot of Japanese restaurants here in Jakarta, but most of the time these restaurants serve chicken katsu/beef katsu. It was quite hard to find a decent katsudon in Jakarta. Then I heard about a place specializing in Katsu located in both Plaza Indonesia and Grand Indonesia, but too bad the price was quite high, so I hesitated until one day I read that they offer discount using a certain credit card.

So we went there with a friend for dinner one night. The place is designed in elegant contemporary design with some Japanese ceramic bowls pasted on the glass wall partition. The ambience is nice but the lighting is too dim. We ordered Pork Sirloin Katsu Nabe Set (complete with katsu, miso or tonjiro soup, pickles and salads) to share, while our friend ordered Saporro Ramen set menu that came with tempura. After ordering, a waiter came to our table and gave a demonstration of making the katsu sauce: sesame seed was smashed in a bowl and then combined with katsu sauce. It was interesting. Then our meal came. The presentation was nice, the portion was quite genereous and the taste was delicious. I enjoyed the meal, but SC felt that it was not worth the price, even after the discount. Still, if you have some extra money to burn, you might want to try this place or its sister next door, Toranomon 🙂

Itu katsunya pake topping putih2 apa Jen? Telur ya? Kok servingnya misah yah? Saus telurnya gak jatuh ke nasi dong?
PS: Gue penasaran tuh sama Kitchen sejak gue tau itu dari Hera. Bagus banget yah?

in my opinion , this is the best katsu in town but the most over priced one
(u can eat at Samudra Shark Fin All U can Eat for about the same price)

@V: iya itu saos telur, hehehe abis lo komen gw baru sadar knapa dipisah ya? mungkin demi kosmetik kali.wadah katsunya ngga cukup kalo ditambahin nasi dibawah.

Katsunabenya bikin kenyang pol. Imo, kayaknya gue lebih suka versi katsu yg biasa tanpa telor. Gak kekenyangan dan gak terlalu bloated. Overall asik sih si katsusei ini (diluar harganya)

ebi katsu-nya enak. Gue rada heran, ada yah, udang sepanjang itu? hehehe…

pork katsudon – not beef or chicken, yang lumayan di komachi kelapa gading, even better di kira kira ginza melawai. sanpachi last time saya coba di artha gading. tapi di sanpachi mreka deep fried too dry jadi not juicy anymore. haha.

Menurut gue jg this place has the best pork katsudon, daging dalemnya masih juicy, luarnya very crunchy, saus telurnya jg perfectly cooked. Bisa dibilang ga kalah sama katsudon yg gue pernah makan di negeri asalnya… Tp emang harganya mahal sihh:(

It’s one of the best katsu i’ve tried in Jakarta. The price is quite steep, but if you’re looking for top notch katsu & got the money to burn, this is the place to try..

The rice here is so nice! So clean, pristine white & “pulen” banget. The katsu sauce here is also SO GOOD!

menurut gw makanannya lumayan enak.. tapi pengalaman gw makan disana bener2 ga enak bgt. first, servicenya parah sekali.. makanannya datengnya lama. trus gw order makanan lupa di catet sama salah 1 waitressnya..gw nunggu 1 jam makanan gw ga keluar2. setelah itu gw nanya ternyata makanannya ga diorder. gw ngmong baik2 sama waiternya dan gw nanya waitress yg take order gw, tiba2 waitress itu malah marah2 then, dy ngmong pake bahasa ” lo gw” dan gw diliatin sinis sama waitress itu. sampe akhirnya gw panggil managernya karena waitressnya ga sopan. managernya akirnya kasih gw complimentary buah2an. ternyata sampe rumah gw cek billnya ternyata complimentarynya bayar ampir 20rb. biarpun makanannya enak gw ga akan balik lg kesana makan.

You should try kitchen 18, they are located across Plaza Indonesia in BII plaza building (enter from basement parking area). This restaurant is quite authentic and they do serve a pretty good pork katsu at a reasonable price there. I also love the agedashi tofu there. Check out their website at kitchen-18.com.
