Ocha & Bella

Two weeks ago, SC and I visited a new restaurant called Ocha & Bella for lunch. Ocha & Bella is located in the Citadines Hotel at the corner of Jaksa and Wahid Hasyim street. We’ve heard about this place from several people saying that this place serves Italian & Japanese cuisine. I thought it was weird, but since I love seeing restaurant design/concept, we decided to try it, but lowered our expectations so we won’t be too disappointed if things weren’t as good as we hoped for. The interior of Ocha and Bella is certainly quite interesting. The restaurant occupies a long and narrow space in the ground floor, but the architect succesfully created a spacious feeling with high ceilings and glass walls. To the right side is the open kitchen and there’s a separate outdoor area (maybe for the smokers) that also looks quite comfortable.

Once we got our seats, we’re given 2 different menus, one for the Italian dishes and another for the Japanese dishes. We decided to play it safe: 1 pizza and 1 dessert. So, we picked Salsiccia pizza (tomato sauce, mozarella cheese, home made Italian sausage and fresh chili) 90K and Tortino al cioccolato piccante (spicy valrhona chocolate melt with honey gelato) 60K, with ice tea 40K (20K each) as our drinks.

After ordering, a small tin of bread came consisting of cheese sticks and a kind of salty crusted bread that tasted very delicious. We loved it although it was a bit too salty. After that, came the pizza. It was limp and a bit too runny, so we decided to roll the pieces before eating it. The taste was a bit spicy; decent, but nothing special.

After that, came the melt chocolate. From the appearance, it was very interesting. A nicely shaped chocolate cake topped with several corn flakes served with honey gelato and cream. The taste was delicious, I loved the warm chocolate sauce with the hint of spicy aftertaste. The honey gelato was also delicious, the texture is smooth and not too sweet. Overall, we’re ambivalent with 1 hit and 1 miss. Still, even though the price can’t be categorized as affordable, I think this place is worth a try just to see how it compares with other Italian restaurants đŸ™‚
