Last month, as I walked across the south lobby of Gallery Lafayette – Pacific Place, I noticed a coming soon sign for a French bakery / patisserie called Paul Maison de Qualité. It’s a famous patisserie from France founded in 1889. I was intrigued and decided to try it when it eventually opens.

The opportunity arrived two days ago. As usual, I preferred to go to such places on weekdays and going early to avoid long queues and the lunch rush hour. We arrived at around 11.30 AM, but Paul Bakery and Patisserie was already crowded. It turned out that they also serve breakfast from 7 AM. Luckily, we didn’t have to wait long to get a table. The place is not big and thankfully, the smoking and non-smoking sections are physically separated. The menu is not very extensive, so we decided what we’re going to order pretty quickly. I ordered croque salmon poireaux 105K while SC picked moelleux chocolat 45K. For the drink, we ordered ice lemon tea and orange juice.

After that, I strolled to the bakery area to check out Paul’s cakes and pastries. There are a lot of mouthwatering selection from mille feuille, fruit tartlets, macaron, various flans and tarts. There are also rows of freshly baked bread that looked very appetizing. I saw a large palmier that I really wanted to try, but I think it had to wait until our next visit.

Not long after ordering, the chocolate cake came. It looked very simple, just a slice of chocolate cake without any icing or decoration. Once you get a taste, however, you would stop caring how it looked. This is one of the best chocolate cake I’ve tasted this year. Usually, the chocolate cakes I tasted were very dense, but the one at Paul’s was quite light, smooth yet so flavorful.

Paul’s croque salmon was also good, the toast was crunchy, the cheese was generous and the salmon was also tasty. The mesclun salad accompanying the croque salmon were also good.

Overall, we had a good time at Paul’s bakery and patisserie. The service was prompt and attentive, although the price was on the high side. I think I’ll be back for more pastries and bread.

    tadi abis ke sana.. menurut saya overpriced… roti tawar sebungkus 65 rb… utk kue yg lain rasa lumayan, tapi jujur aja rasa kurang lebih mirip roti TLJ… kalo saya sih ga balik lagi krn harga tidak cocok…

    tadi ke godiva juga di plaza indo… chocolixirnya enak… harga pantes la sekisaran starbucks…
    btw ini opini pribadi ya… utk org laen bisa aja beda

    o ya kasi input nih.. kmaren ini saya ada makan seafood di sebelah sun merry MK.. yg pas hook itu.. namanya CABE IJO… surprisingly the food is very good … ga murah2 amat seperti Aroma Sop, tapi juga ga mahal… kalo suka aroma sop.. rasanya pasti suka ini juga.. spicy and nice taste đŸ™‚
