Portabella Bistro Bali

That night, SC and I decided to have something fancy for dinner, so we jumped into a cab to Fontana hotel for a dinner at Portabella Bistro. It was quiet at Portabella and only one other table was occupied. The interior is nicely designed, rustic yet cozy with an open kitchen on one side and a wall full of unique memorabilias. The non-smoking and smoking sections are separated by a short, narrow corridor that should help minimize drifting smoke into the non-smoking area.

Portabella Bistro offers an array of Italian classic dishes from soup, pasta, pizza, proteins and dessert. There are also several selections of sharing platters. So we decided to order several dishes to share, starting with eggplant parmigiana 55K, then Italian cuts 120K for the main course, and chocolate temptation 50K for dessert.

After ordering, we were served bread accompanied with olive oil and balsamic vinegar, plus a dipping sauce made from beetroot and orange puree. The bread was warm and crusty, but I especially love the beetroot orange puree. It has a smooth tangy taste that provides a good alternative to the usual olive oil + balsamic vinegar combo.

The eggplant parmigiana (wood baked eggplant, tomato sauce, mozarella, fresh basil and parmesan) was also good, although I couldn’t find the eggplant behind all that layers of cheese and tomato sauce.

The Italian cuts was served on a flat bread with a selection of parma ham, spicy salami milano, honey roast ham, bresaola, marinated olives, artichoke and sun-dried tomato. It was delicious, but overwhelming, I hardly managed to finish the dish.

After that came the dessert. The chocolate temptation is made from kahlua flavored chocolate mousse with hazelnut praline. The presentation was pretty and the taste was superb. If you’re a chocolate lover, you have to try this.

Overall we had a great night at Portabella Bistro. The service was good and attentive, and the price we paid for all those dishes is quite reasonable. Hopefully we can return again when get another chance to go to Bali.
