Last month, I read an article in Jakarta Globe about a new cakery called Souly Butter Kitchen. I’ve also read some tweets regarding this place so we decided to try it. Located just across KFC Kemang, the place is small. The JG article said it can only fit 15 people, but I think 10 is the more likely number. The place is nicely designed though, with white furniture and colorful cushions. Half of the place is dedicated for the kitchen, with the cakes & pastries beautifully displayed on the kitchen table, creating a really mounthwatering display. The kitchen is a real kitchen, not decoration only, and they do real baking here. They were making chocolate eclairs when I walked in and I have to restrain myself from ordering that.
Luckily, we just have a big lunch, so I can’t order everything to try. We only ordered a slice of the recommended carrot cake, a couple of macarons (10K each), and ice lychee tea for our drink. I love the carrot cake and the size was quite generous. Some people commented on my twitter/fb page that the cake looked dry, but it was moist enough and I like the generous pieces of walnuts, carrots and raisins. Overall, we enjoyed our time there, but not really sure how we would fare if the place were crowded, especially since we don’t know whether they allow smoking or not.
