I’m not a huge fan of Taiwanese/Japanese dessert places that have been booming in Pantai Indah Kapuk area. But there’s this place called SumoBoo that has a very nice / attractive facade with a seemingly endless queue in front of the store. Since I don’t relish the thought of queueing under a blistering sun, however, I haven’t had the chance to try it until 2 months ago. We’re meeting friends for breakfast at PIK Fresh Market. After that, we decided to try our luck. We arrived at 11AM sharp and immediately got a table.
They interior is as cute as the exterior, with light wooden chair and the reflected sunlight from the glass windows creating a light and cheery atmosphere. The menu consists of various selections of sweet dessert like Taiwanese dessert, ice cream, kakigori, mochi, snow ice, grass jelly, mixed pudding, coconut soup, parfait. There were also some selections of savory dishes like katsudon, buta ramen and japadog (Japanese hot dog).
I’ve heard a lot about this cute dessert called Boo!! Kakigori, but unfortunately the item was not available at the moment. So we settled with SumoBoo grass jelly no.6 (grass jelly, big boba, matcha ice cream, sumo bomb ball, mochi, red bean, taro). Overall, it tasted good but nothing to rave about. I like the matcha ice cream since it was not too sweet.
I’ve also read about their buta naked ramen which has several spiciness levels to choose from. So I ordered that with the spiciness level at 20 out of 30. Sumoboo’s buta naked ramen turned out to be a dried kind of ramen, topped with fried egg, generous bits of bacon cubes and nori. It was delicious, spicy but still tolerable. I love the bacon bits but I think the fried egg was overcooked.
Overall, I much prefer the spicy ramen than the cold & sweet desserts. Will I come back? Sure, but only for the ramen and only after the hype had settled down.
