More than a month ago, TWG Tea Salon & Boutique opened their first branch in Jakarta. Located at Plaza Senayan near Sogo dept. store, the place seems to be always packed with customers. The store is not big and it’s separated in two, with half as a tea store and the other half a dining area. Several days ago, I managed to drag SC to this place for lunch. It was not crowded yet as it was still early, so we easily got a table without having to queue first.
Upon seated we’re given two sets of menu, one for the tea and one for the food. The tea list is extensive with more than 100 types of tea. Since we’re going to have lunch here, I chose something light for the tea which is Orange Blossom Oolong tea 42K++, while SC settled for Hidden Pu Erh 42K++. The tea came in a fancy teapot. Mine was flavorful and smooth. I like how my tea taste. However, SC’s pu erh has a fruity tone that he didn’t like. He prefers his tea without any fruity flavor. For the meal, I picked seared matcha salmon (Seared salmon fillet accompanied by green peas, carrots, cauliflower and mini yellow squash drizzled with a balsamic vinegar caramel and Matcha green tea oil) 160K++ with garden salad (tossed in 1837 Green Tea infused vinaigrette) 25K++ and SC decided to order wagyu burger (grilled wagyu beef burger with lettuce, tomato and Emmental cheese topped with horseradish mayonnaise and served on a homemade bun, accompanied by matchstick potatoes and mesclun salad tossed in an 1837 Green Tea infused vinaigrette) 165K++. For dessert we shared a Normandy apple tart (Delicate flaky pastry filled with stewed apples served with a scoop of homemade Singapore Breakfast Tea ice cream and topped with an unctuous caramel coulis infused with Pomme Prestige Tea) 60K++
Both our dishes looked appetizing, SC especially likes the french fries that seemed to be fried (or drizzled?) with truffle oil. The burger and salmon were both good, but nothing to write home about. The salmon I had at Trattoria Bali a few months ago would easily best this one. The dessert was pretty and delicious, but I think the pastry was too thin and the apple was almost unseen. The Singapore breakfast tea ice cream on top was delightful though. Overall I think the food was just OK, although the service was friendly and top notch. I think I’ll be back to try the brunch/tea time menus.
PS: I tried some of their tea infused macarons at 15K/pcs and IMO, these are definitely one of the best in Jakarta!
