Whenever we’re in Bali, nasi campur babi guling is always on the top of our priority list in Bali. We love to sample nasi campur babi guling from numerous sellers and most didn’t disappoint. It’s a different story in Jakarta though. It’s quite hard to find a place that offers authentic nasi campur babi guling. Until recently, our go to place for good Balinese dishes was Warung Nyoman (read the review HERE), but several new places have opened in Jakarta and Tangerang that boasted nasi campur babi guling as their specialty. So without further ado, below are a few places offering nasi campur babi guling that we think is worth to try.
Warung Pradnyani is located at Gading Serpong area. It is quite easy to spot as there’s a big illustration of a red pig in front of the place. The menu is quite short, just nasi campur babi guling that costs 40K/portion with some drink choices. Their version of nasi campur babi guling tasted quite good, consisting of red fried pork chunk, babi menyatnyat, fried peanuts, lawar kacang panjang, crackling pork skin and soup. My only complaint was that their sambal matah was too coarsely chopped so the flavor didn’t blend all that well and it left me with a strong shallot aftertaste.

Pig Hunter in Sunter area does not really specialize in Balinese dishes. They are more about serving various cuisines (Balinese, Western & Chinese) containing pork. Their nasi babi guling is priced at 40K and consisted of fried pork chunks, be sisit (spicy shredded chicken), crackling pork skin, fried peanuts and lawar kacang panjang . It tasted quite good, but to be honest, the dish tasted more like Chinese food than Balinese. I noticed that there’s no pork satay/sate lilit served, but their sambal matah was spot on.

After trying those two versions of nasi campur babi guling, I don’t really have high expectation when I went to try Babi Guling Ko Made in Muara Karang area. We ordered a portion of Paket Babi Guling Besar 48K consisting of warm rice with suckling pork, fried pork chunks, urap, lawar, pork sate lilit, pork skin crackers and a bowl of soup. Surprisingly, this was the best out of the three places. The suckling pig was tender and the sauce was pretty spicy. I also like their sate lilit, sambal matah and sambal goreng, plus their pork skin lawar is the best that I’ve ever had outside Bali. Too bad the pork crackling skin was not available. So far, I reckon this is the closest version to the authentic nasi campur babi guling in Bali.
