Whenever we go to Bandung, we often neglected to explore eateries around Ciumbuleuit area. But on our last visit, we purposely picked a hotel just off Ciumbuleuit main street. So when I heard about a nice restaurant called Wild Grass not far from where we stayed, I wanted to sample their menu. The restaurant is located on Kareumbi street, near Miss Bee Providore. We arrived there quite early at around 9 in the morning and right as we arrived, we can see that it does offer a nice view. Wild Grass is a three-story house with a vast garden area surrounded by tall trees. The seating around the garden area looked interesting, but as it is the designated smoking area, we chose to sit inside near the kitchen. After all, we came for the food not the view 🙂
Coming from the same management as Nanny’s Pavillon, Wild Grass offers an intensive menu ranging from breakfast, appetizer, mains, pizza, pasta, dessert to many good looking drinks. We want our meal to be more substantial than breakfast, and since the friendly staff said that their lunch menu is ready, we ordered several dishes to share starting with spanish squid salad 49K, then cajun grilled chicken 65K and ending with Chili Choco Lava cake 39K. For drinks we went with a jar of infused water.
Spanish Squid Salad
Mixed salad serves with watermelon cubes, avocado, mixed nut, orange vinaigrette dressing and topped with grilled squid. It was delicious, the dressing was refreshing and the squid cooked just right.
Cajun Grilled Chicken
Crispy grilled chicken with cajun seasoning served with mash potato, some salad and cherry balsamic vinaigrette. This one also tasted good. The chicken was well seasoned and tender. The cherry balsamic vinaigrette was also good, but I think it was a little overpowering when eaten with the chicken. I liked it more on the mash potato.
Chili Choco Lava
It’s been a while since we had a good chocolate lava cake, so we didn’t really have a high expectation. But Wild Grass’ Chili Choco Lava didn’t disappoint. A warm dark chocolate cake with gooey chocolate inside that goes well with vanilla ice cream. There’s a tiny hint of spiciness but not overpowering so SC still can enjoy it.
Wild Grass is a nice addition to the food scene in Bandung. The food are imaginative and the price is quite affordable. I think I need a second visit as there are still so much I want to try from their menu. I reckon the place would be crowded on weekends, so do arrive early as the parking area is limited.
