Mangga Besar street at night are full with all range of food you can imagine, from street vendor that offering a lot of chinese food (Medanese) delicacies to sea food restaurant, sichuan food, and even some extreme food like snake satay/soup/blood, “biawak”, monket meat – can be easily found in here. But that night we decided not to go with the extreme line, but just have some easy meal like “kwetiau akang”, “a kiaw baso”, and “roti canai”Kwe Tiau A Kang Medan
I already heard about this famous kwetiau by A Kang from Medan for a long time but never had chance to try it until now, so when SC headed to ordered his fav “kwetiau sapi kuah” next door, I went and sit at the kwetiau a kang and ordered 1 portion of their famous ‘kwetiau goreng’ (cost about 20K) + 2 glass of ‘liang teh’, the place is considered very clean, and they cook outside the restaurant. In 5 minutes a plate of kwetiau was served on top of my table. when I first taste it, it felt it was a bit tasteless, so I tried to add the condiment such as, soysauce, pepper, chili sauce & ‘acar bawang’ and mix it all together. at it taste quite alright, not bad but maybe I was expecting too much 🙂

A Kiaw Baso
After my not so fortunate event with ‘kwetiau akang’ I turned to SC’s bowl. His bowl looks more interesting than mine (I guess ‘makanan tetangga emang lebih enak daripada makanan ndiri hehehe’), his meal consist of 2 bowl which had kwetiau tops with cilantro and a spoon of fried garlic in one bowl, and another bowl full with beef meat and a very tasty soup. it was so delicious i can’t help my self to help him clean his bowl 😛 The origin of this restaurant is from the famous ‘baso lebong’ located at Lebong street at Medan which also my friends favourite.

Roti Canai
After that we walk around mangga besar street and saw alot of of Medanese food stall (nasi campur pasar ramai, kue2 basah ala Medan).. after that we decided to tried roti canai (@5K) & kari kambing (15K) sold by an Indian guy, not bad and the curry taste so delicious served with ‘acar timun & bawang’, the ‘roti canai’ tasted more delicous that any ‘Penang restaurant’ I had ever tried in Jakarta. After that we tried… hehehe just kidding, we already feel very full, we just go home 🙂
Wah, finally main ke mabes juga Jen; yg dikau coba, udah gw nyoba semua, favorite gw emang baso Akiaw; enak enak enak. Kalo ke daerah sana mesti makan bubur,baik bubur Aguan, bubur hostes, bubur mabes, oke2 kok rasanya. Cuma kalo makan kwetiaw Akang, mesti ke Muara Karang; yg pertama khan disana, trus kudu lakinya yg masak, hehe, kalo istrinya kurang mengigit gitu deh. Kalo enggak coba adja kwetiaw tomatnya, lumayan juga.

Sorry, gue komen 2x. Yg Kwetiaw Akang, gue biasa pergi yg di Muara Karang. Beda sama Herlina (hallo, met kenal…), gue malah suka kalo si enci yg masak :)). Mungkin karena encinya kayak nyokap gue kali mukanya (apaan coba? :D).
Favourite gue, kalo gak Kwetiaw goreng, gue pesen yg polos. Yg polos tuh bener2 asik kata gue. Isinya cuma kwetiaw + toge + sawi. Bisa juga pake telor, tapi kata gue kurang wangi. Nah, pas nyampe di meja, tuangin satu buletan kecap asin yg di meja sama cabe sesuka elo. Wanginyaaaa *ileran*
Maap, gue komen lagi :”>. Setelah gue perhatiin, yg di Mangga II beda kok tampilannya sama yg di MK? Keliatannya lo mesti bujuk Sopi ke sono 😀 😀 :D.

That bakso looks good i wonder if it’s Halal, would like to try. Always worry about that when eating in those areas.
Basonya sih baso sapi.. tapi ngga tau deh kuahnya halal apa nggak, mending nanya dulu sebelum makan 🙂

pernah makan kwetiau akang yang di mabes, sama kok gue berasanya rada tasteless ya

gue setujuh ama venny …enakan yang di muara karang…mungkin karena yang masak lain?? di kelapa gading ada juga kok kwetiau akang deket kwetiaw hayam wuruk situ.
Tapi memang paling enak yang di Muara Karang situ 😀
Kwetiau goreng ala Venny tadi biasanya orang rumah gue bilang nya pek cha.. polos cuma pake telur,sayur and toge aja 😀
Ikutan yah… Wah Kwetiau Akang Muara Karang pas di sebrang rumah gw nih… Biasa jam 12 mlm tinggal nyebrang. Hehehe… Gw pernah mesen mie tomatnya dibungkus tapi ternyata kalo di bawa pulang rasanya jadi nda gitu enak..

kwetiau akang yg muara karang ada di deretan seberang pizza hut..
kalo kesana cobain mie tomatnya d, enak banget.. sama ada juga yg jualan sate padang disana, sate padang-nya enak juga loh.. beda ma yg biasa.. ^^

roti canainya ada dimana tepatnya?? kok gue ga pernah liat yeh?ada patokannya ga dimana?
Itu di deretan yang ada Cucu Photo, cuma beberapa meter doang kok dari Bakmi Henis atau Kwetiau Tio Ang. Kayanya sih kalau tanya tukang parkir di depan Cucu Photo, mereka tahu. Wong penjual roti cane di daerah itu cuma satu doang kok.
Few years ago i had a friend coming from Penang, Malaysia. When he first taste Akang, his comment was come to penang for the best char kwe teoy. Gang Selamat Penang, the best kwetiaw i ever eat.
Another my favorite is kwetiau is a few meter after hotel hayam wuruk, in front of ruko, but last few time i went there seem that this place is off. This and bubur hostess is 2 my favorite place at night in the 90 and early 2000. Still visit for a few time but i think both are history now
