Nestled in the same row of shop houses as Tanamera Coffee, there’s a recently opened French restaurant called Avec Moi. Avec Moi pronounced [Ah Vekh Mwa], which means with me, is a family-owned restaurant serving modern French cuisine at an affordable price. When I first read about it, I was so excited since I’ve been waiting for an affordable & good French restaurant like the old Java Bleu used to be. So about two weeks ago, SC & I went there for lunch.
It was still early for lunch when we arrived, but there’s a gathering at the second floor so we’re seated at the first floor. The three story restaurant is small, but quite cozy. The menu selection is limited, so it was easier for us to decide what to order. We ordered escargot (French escargot de-shelled, fresh homemade pesto and grilled baguette) 65K for hors-d’oeuvre, then for the main course we ordered duck leg confit (sous vide duck leg in duck fat, caramelized onions, grape and tomato concasse, mash potato) 145K and Norwegian salmon (pan seared salmon, blue shell mussels, cream sauce, pilaf rice) 150K, and orange soufle(candied orange zest, segment orange, rum & raisin ice cream from haagen dazs) 60K for dessert.
The escargot came first. The portion is moderately small but the taste was delicious, I especially like the garlic pesto sauce. Next came our main course. My duck confit was cooked perfectly, succulent meat with crispy skin and the sauce was also delicious. SC’s salmon skin looks abit too dark, but the inside was still pink, just like I prefer in pan-seared salmon dish. At last came our dessert, the souffle rose perfectly although the inside was still too runny for my preference, but we enjoyed it nevertheless.
Overall, it was a nice lunch experience. The chef approached us personally to ask for our opinion about the food. Most of all, the price we paid for all those delicious meal is still quite affordable compared to other French eateries in town.
