Before our trip to Yogya, I asked around about what to try in Yogya on Twitterland. Some answers I got recommended that I try bakso (meatballs) at RS Bethesda’s cafeteria. So while in Yogya, I decided to look for it, but the information I got from our driver is that the famous bakso seller is located right next to the hospital (not in the cafeteria), and apparently the place has already closed in the afternoon. So on our last day, we decided to give it another shot. We went there at just around 10 AM when they were just starting to put their cart outside the VIP area of Bethesda hospital. As usual, we ordered two bowl of bakso to share. I have to admit that the meatball was good and they also sold delicious bakso goreng (fried meatballs). The soup was savory, but I suspected it was because of the micin (monosodium glutamate) the seller put into the soup.
As we paid, out of curiosity, we asked the seller and he informed us that there is indeed another bakso seller inside the hospital’s cafeteria and they sell pork meatballs. “Bingo!” Although we’re already quite full, we decided to try it anyway. So we marched to the cafeteria and found the bakso seller, and ordered two bowls of bakso without noodles. It was definitely worth the search. The meatball was delicious and most of all, I like the soup, which tasted like genuine pork broth. There were also pork meat slices in the soup besides the fried beancurd 🙂
So, in my opinion, both bakso sellers (outside and inside RS Bethesda) are worth to try. If you can’t eat pork, try the one outside the hospital, but if you can, go straight to the one inside the cafeteria. 🙂
