Several doors down from Opah Mami (read the review HERE), there’s a unique restaurant named HaloNiko! that serves Javanese and Greek cuisines. The combination is exciting, plus the exterior and interior look inviting, so we decided to go there for dessert. HaloNiko! is a family restaurant created by Kika, a Javanese woman who married a Greek man named Niko. The menu consists of some Javanese dishes like mie godhog, nasi goreng, sego campur, ayam bumbu rujak alongside Greek dishes like greek salad, souvlaki, moussaka, etc.

Since we just had lunch before at Opah Mami, we only ordered lamb souvlaki (grilled lamb with onion wrapped in pita bread and served with fried yam & tzatziki sauce) 72K, loukoumades (deep fried dough sprinkled with cinnamon powder and eaten dipped into honey) 36K, a pot of Greek coffee 27K and vanila lime ice 27K. The Greek coffee is brewed in a copper pot and served in a nice demitasse cup. It was strong but not my cup of coffee. The lamb souvlaki on the other hand was satisfying. The meat was tender and flavorful, and it was also accompanied by some sweet potato fries that can be dipped into the tzatziki sauce. We enjoyed it although we’re already quite full from lunch. The loukoumades was our highlight of the day. The fried doughs were dusted with cinnamon and eaten after dipping in honey. I couldn’t stop munching as the dough was crispy on the outside yet still retained its bread texture, with just the right sweetness for my not so sweet tooth.

We really like the loukoumades, so we went back there again the next weekend. This time we ordered mama moussaka (a blend of eggplants, yam, minced beef, bechamel sauce, edam cheese) 65K, and loukomades (again!) and a cup of hot tea 10K. The moussaka is delicious and the loukomades is as good as we remembered. So far, we have already been to this place twice and haven’t gotten bored yet. I still want to return to try other HaloNiko! dishes.

Just had late lunch at Yamas yesterday which serves Greek food too. This post reminds me of it so much and makes me tempted to try HaloNiko!
    Thanks for the review 🙂
