August 8, 2014 | Chinese Cuisine, Malaysia Singapore, With Pork

For the past few weeks, people have been raving about Song Fa, a newly opened Bak Kut Teh (肉骨茶) restaurant in the Pantai Indah Kapuk area. However, this reminds me that I haven’t shared about my favorite Bak Kut Teh restaurant called Ta Chia. It is located on Jl. Labu, Central Jakarta, but they also have a branch at Jl. Pluit Karang Timur, which is the place where I usually go. The Pluit Karang branch used to be small, but it was recently upgraded and now occupies a much larger building, still on the same street.

My favorite dish here is their Hokkien / Cantonese style Bak Kut Teh (pork ribs soup) or also known as Malaysian Bak Kut Teh. The broth is darker from the use of soy sauce plus there’s a fragrant aroma that comes from the herbs & spices such as garlic, star anise, cinnamon, dang gui, cloves, etc. A bowl of Sapo Bak Kut Teh at Ta Chia costs about 45K, usually served with a bowl of rice and Chinese cruller / cakue 6.5K. Other than pork ribs, you can also choose pork innards (liver, intestine, etc) to go with the herbal soup.

Besides their Bak Kut Teh, I also love their fish soup 34K and braised pork trotter 37K. They also have many Chinese dishes to choose from, which mostly tasted good. So whenever I’m feeling blue or need something to cheer me up, I always return here for a bowl of bak kut teh or fish soup.
