Last month, we’re meeting SC’s old university friends at Summarecon Mall Serpong. We rarely go here, so we didn’t yet know what to try. Upon looking at the mall directory, we noticed that there’s a restaurant called Mama’s German Restaurant that was one of SC’s favorite places in Bali. So we’re really excited and decided to have lunch there. Fortunately the place was quite empty at lunch time, so we didn’t have to worry about the smoking policy.
When SC & I went to Mama’s in Bali, we couldn’t order much since it was just the two of us. This time, we decided to try everything *grin* So we scanned the menu and ordered: Caesar Salad (romaine lettuce, Caesar dressing, croutons and grated parmesan with crispy bacon bits), Bavarian Meat platter (meat and cheese platter mixed with for different cold slices of sausages, cheese, egg and gherkin), four sausages “Nürnberger style” served with homemade sauerkraut and parsley potatoes, pork kassler (kasslerbraten), Mama’s beef goulash (served with choices of homemade rotkohl (red cabbage) and green vegetables), and the highlight of the day was pork knuckle (schweinshaxe). I also ordered a bottle of hoegaarden/wheat beer. Overall, I love it! From the salad to the pork knuckle, even the side dish such as mashed potatoes was good. The sauerkraut flavor was a bit too mild. I prefer a more sour taste, but none in our group complained, so that’s probably just me. The pork knuckle was a tad too salty but the meat has crispy skin and tender & juicy meat. Overall, considering the price, Mama’s German restaurant was quite enjoyable so we promised we will be back for more.
