In the last couple of years, a lot of coffee shops have opened in Greater Jakarta serving specialty coffee from Indonesia and around the world. As coffee drinkers, this is good news for us as we got to try coffee at many places which feature nice interior to sit and work in. Among those coffee shops, there are several places we often frequented and Origin.co is one of them.
Located in Gading Serpong area, Origin.co is unique as it only serves manually brewed coffee. You won’t see any La Marzocco espresso machine here. If you’re not familiar with the area, just follow the direction from Google maps. The signboard is not really prominent and it shares the location with a barber shop. The place is not big but feels spacy due to the minimalist interior. A coffee bar takes up more than a third of the floor with a large communal wooden table in the middle and some small tables hugging the wall.
The coffee beans selection is amazing. There are many coffee beans to choose from and they are constantly changing. You can find coffee from Africa, South America, and of course, local Indonesian coffee beans. Confused? Just ask the helpful baristas for their recommendation on the coffee beans and the brewing methods. There’re many brewing tools to choose from: V60, kalita, chemex, french press, eva solo. If you’re more of an espresso person, They can make it for you using ROK presso. They also have a selection of tea / chocolate drink if you like.
Here at Origin.co, they takes coffee brewing very seriously. The coffee beans are measured, then brewed with the specific water temperature & ratio to bring out the most flavor that we often saw described in the coffee bag/packages. Before they sent each brew out to customer, they even checked the brew with an equipment called TDS (Total Disolved Solids) meter which calculated the concentration of coffee/water mixture, if it’s not reaching 1.5% they wont send it out and rebrew it.
So far we’ve never been disappointed whenever we went to Origin for coffee. And the price we paid for a cup of that kind of quality coffee is considered quite reasonable compared to those fancy coffee shops in Jakarta. So if you’re in the Gading Serpong area and you call yourself a coffee snob / coffee geek, go get some coffee here!
