Last weekend, I was meeting SC at Grand Indonesia and joined some friends at Paulaner Bräuhaus – Grand Indonesia. I was looking foward to visit this place since its opening day, but was reluctant as we heard that the place has a free smoking policy. However, our friends texted me and convinced us that they got a corner location away from the smokers’ cloud. It was crowded at the time we arrived, but luckily, a table was already reserved for us. The place is spacious, decorated in red brick walls and wooden tables and chairs that made the place feels warm. The live music was loud and fun. The waiters and waitresses wore traditional Bavarian costumes. Some of the waitresses even looked like they were coming straight from their native land.
We ordered several glasses of beer to share. There are two kinds of beers served there: Munich Lager (A bright & golden brew with a light and smooth flavor, containing 4.7% alcohol) and Munich Dark (full body, intense malt flavour with deep, rich dark golden color, containing 4.8% alcohol) served in 0.3, 0.5 and 1 litre glass. We ordered a glass of Lager beer 0.5L (64K) and Dark beer 0.3L (50K) to share. I tasted both of them and decided that I liked the light one better (note: I’m not a drinker, so don’t put too much value into my comment). Just remember not to order soft drinks unless absolutely necessary since a can of coca cola cost 45K here. 🙂
Since each of us already had dinner before, we only ordered Paulaner’s homemade butchery specialties which is Paulaner Brauhausplatt Kassler, Eisbein, Bratwurst, Leberkase, Wiener, Nuernberger urn Schweinshaxe mit Sauerkraut und Kartoffelpueree (smoked pork chop, boiled pork knuckle, 1 piece pork sausage, meatloaf, 2 pieces Vienna sausages, 2 pieces Nuernberger and half pork knuckle platter with sauerkraut and mashed potato) 199K. The menu stated that the dish is for 2 people, but I think it’s large enough for 3-4 hungry people. It was trully delicious, I haven’t tried Die Stube‘s pork knuckle before, so I can’t compare them, but I like Paulaner’s sausages better.
We also ordered Paulaner’s lentil soup with Vienna sausages (Paulaner Linsensuppe mit Wiener Wuerstchen) 50K which tasted great. I never thought non-Indian recipe lentil soup can be this good. For the dessert, SC ordered a plate of Homemade apple strudel with vanilla sauce (Apfelstrudel mit vanillesauce) 42K with 2 scoops of chocolate & vanilla ice cream 60K, which I suspected came from Kempi Deli next door. Overall, it was a very fun night, the music was contagious as everyone was very cheerful and we got louder and louder with every gulp of the beer. 🙂
