One of the most memorable restaurant I tried during my last trip to Bali is Locavore. Located in Ubud, Restaurant Locavore is a place that serves contemporary European dishes with local ingredients. By using locally grown products, not only it can reduce the food miles, but it can also benefit local farmers. A friend recommended us to try the chef’s five/seven-course tasting menu, but as we arived late the afternoon, we’ll have to save that idea for our next visit.
As we’re still full from our previous meal, we only ordered 1 main course to share. Shortly after ordering, we were presented with an amuse-bouche in the form of assorted organic vegetables and freshly baked sourdough. I love the vegetables so much even without seasoning. It was fresh, sweet and crunchy. The sourdough was equally delectable, served with pesto sauce made from kemangi (Asian basil).
Our main course that day was Barramundi a la meuniere served with caramelized butter vinaigrette, crab, baby carrot cooked in carrot juice, toasted cashew, pomelo segments and green bean ‘risotto’ 150K. The barramundi was cooked perfectly and served with ingredients that complemented each other. At this point I began to regret my decision not to try their tasting menu. The service was also very friendly and helpful, the waiter serving us patiently answered my questions with a smiling face, even though we’re Indonesians and only ordered one menu to share. It was a memorable experience, I can’t wait to go to Restaurant Locavore again on our next trip to Bali.
