December 5, 2012 | Medan, North Sumatra Cuisine, With Pork

Last week, we had a trip to North Sumatra. As you may already know, Medan is known as a haven for foodies. So Leo from suggested that I should try RM. Robema that serves Bataknese dishes. Robema is located at Kompleks Multatuli Indah, which is only 10 minutes away from Polonia airport. It was kind of a coffee shop that has several stalls perched in front of the place selling various dishes. One of them is Robema.

Since we’re already very hungry, we ordered 2 portions of Bataknese style fried pork 38K, 3 portion of saksang 45K, some green vegetables like sayur daun ubi tumbuk 15K, papaya leaves, etc. The dish came with Bataknese blood sauce, the andaliman chili sauce is provided on the table. The fried pork was delicious, fried on order, so the skin was crispy and the meat was succulent. Their saksang was a bit weird for me as it was very oily and tasted almost like a pork version of rendang. I’m not really sure that I like it. But we’re really satisfied with the fried pork, so I think I’ll be back for more.

The best BPK so far is Mami Lestari. Try it next time, when you’re back in Medan.
