Last Christmas, I joined several foodie friends for lunch at Salt Grill. Salt Grill by Luke Mangan is arguably one of the most prestigious dining places in Jakarta. It serves Australian contemporary cuisine and owned by a celebrity chef-restaurateur Luke Mangan. Salt Grill is located at Altitude complex that also housed two other restaurants; Gaia (Italian) and Enmaru (Japanese) on level 46 of The Plaza office building.
With such a great location, prices would be understandably high too. Fortunately, according to my friend, Salt Grill is offering lunch set menus that are priced at 150K net for 2 course menu and 180K net for 3 course menu. So since there were 8 of us that day, we basically ordered every available set menu. And since our motto is sharing, I got to taste some of my friends’ dishes. So without further ado, these were what we tried that day.
Starters
Sashimi of salmon, ginger, eschalot and goats feta
Tempura zucchini, corn puree, smoked feta, capsicum vierge
Duck sliders, pickled papaya, hoy sin sauce
Chargrilled mackerel, pickled onion and fennel on toast
Sydney crab omelette, enoki mushroom and herb salad, miso mustard broth “signature dish”
Mains
Barramundi, prawns, capers in burnt butter, roast tomato, cauliflower puree
Minute steak, garlic mushrooms, truffle mash, baby spinach, red wine sauce
Chicken parmigiana, mix leaf salad, French fries
Desserts
Creme caramel, honeycomb, saltanas in red wine syrup
Guava mille feuille, creme patissier, guava consomme
Coconut and kaffir lime panna cotta, mango espuma, passionfruit and pineapple
Passionfruit cheesecake with raspberry sorbet
I like most of the dishes we tried that day. I especially like the sashimi of salmon, ginger, eschalot and goats feta, barramundi, prawns, capers in burnt butter, roast tomato, cauliflower puree and passionfruit cheesecake with raspberry sorbet. The minute steak was also good, but the portion is slightly too large for me. We also ordered Sydney crab omelette, enoki mushroom and herb salad, miso mustard broth “signature dish” 140K that is not on the lunch menu. It was a hit for us. All in all, just like my friend Dino said “Good food with Good Friends is equal Good Life”
