I’ve been craving for a bowl of Indonesian chicken porridge that is usually sold on street for breakfast or supper. So, when my friend raved about a place called Bubur Ayam Alfa, it got really interested. Unfortunately though, we went there just days before the Ied holiday and they are already closed for the holiday. Then 2 weeks ago, we finally managed to go to this place with some friends for a late dinner.
Bubur Ayam Alfa is located right next to Alfa Minimart at Meruya Ilir area. The place is quite easy to spot since it’s so crowded. They serve Indonesian bubur ayam (chicken porridge) with prices ranging from 15K to 23K per portion, depending on what additional items you take as you eat. That night, each of us ordered a portion of bubur ayam biasa 17K. The bowl was filled with porridge and topped with shredded chicken, spring onion, fried shallot, cakue and melinjo crackers. The porridge texture was quite thick, and it was cooked with chicken broth, so it already has a savory taste. We also ordered several sticks of chicken liver & gizzard. There are also fried peanuts and chili sauce available on the table.
All in all, it’s not hard to see why this place is popular. The food is unmistakably delicious, the portion is also good. It’s been a while since I tasted an Indonesian chicken porridge this good, even though it’s located on a sidewalk, not at some big/fancy restaurant.
