July 31, 2017 | Bandung, International Cuisine, Western Cuisine

The first time we visited WindChime was way back in 2007 and we were very impressed with the food. It quickly became one of our favorite places in Bandung. Unfortunately, WindChime closed its door in 2013, but we kept hoping that it will one day open again. So we’ve been following (a.k.a stalking) the chef’s Instagram & Facebook accounts and we’re so glad to know that he’s opening WindChime again in a new location in 2017.

So last month, we went to Bandung and I put WindChime in my itinerary. The WindChime by Chef Felix is a modern European restaurant that serves fine dining dishes at a relatively affordable price. The new restaurant is located in a renovated house on Jl. Arjuna. The look & feel of the dining room is quite sparse and rustic with exposed brick walls, but hey, we came for the food right? So the waitress gave us the menu book and we started ordering. So let’s begin the feast.

Right after we placed our order, we were served with fresh warm bread to eat with butter. In my opinion, the bread itself was already good without any addition.

For starters, we chose mixed baby greens salad with balsamic dressing 35K that was presented beautifully with the addition of edible flower, and escargot with herbs cream 36K. Both tasted delicious, but the escargot dish looked small-ish without their shells on the escargot plate. Considering the quality and price though, this is just an observation, not a complaint.

For the mains, I opted for duck confit with peas, purple cabbage & brigarde sauce 90K, while SC picked Australia ebony black angus fillet (tenderloin 180gr, portobello, beetroot gel, carrot, chanterelle sauce) 375K. The steak was cooked perfectly to medium rare as we requested. And I really like my duck confit as it was so juicy and flavorful. Both dishes were served with a bowl of warm mashed potatoes, which is also good but we couldn’t finish it.

For dessert, at first we only ordered a plate of Mango pannacota with mixed berries, mascarpone cream & oat crunch 35K. It was delicious, but the portion is quite small, so we ordered another dessert, Hot chocolate truffle with strawberry coulis & vanilla ice cream 50K. We feel so full afterwards, I guess we should have stopped at the pannacota.

Overall, we’re very satisfied with the dishes prepared by Chef Felix and his staff. The service was friendly and attentive. We’ll love to go back there again maybe to try the degustation menu. Best wishes to Chef Felix and The WindChime!
