The area around Jalan Senopati has become quite lively with a string of hip and trendy restaurants opening there. One such place is an upmarket burger joint called Three Buns. SC & I had put off going to this place since I heard it was very crowded and that smoking is allowed everywhere in the premises. About two months ago, we finally decided to give Three Buns a try since it was almost Ied holiday. I was hoping that the place won’t be as crowded as usual. When we got there though, we saw several people smoking in the restaurant and we hesitated. The waiter then pointed out at a seating in a secluded corner that she said should be more protected from the smoke.
Three Buns is decorated as some sort of hangar/showroom with sun roof, stacked plank wood for seating, and a food ‘cashier’ truck perched near the entrance. Sure it’s different from other restaurants in Jakarta, but I think this makes the indoor temperature hotter, especially during the day.
Since it was still during Ramadhan, they offered special packaged meals. So I chose package A that costs about 150K consisting of house fries, burger of choice (baby huey: prime 150gr beef patty, cheese, lettuce, ketchup, pickles and spiced mayo OR the roots: seasonal vegetables, cheese fritter, coleslaw, lettuce, pickles, hot sauce & mayo) I picked baby huey and drink of choice (ice tea or bare roots cola). SC set his choice on Rambo (superior 150gr lamb patty, feta, green chili, egg plant pickle & cumin aioli) 120K. After waiting for a while (and taking photos of the surroundings, of course!), Our meals arrived. We love both of our burgers. The patty was tasty and the buns was superb. Between baby huey and rambo, I think I like rambo more, as I love the eggplant pickle and feta cheese, the lamb small was also not to strong.
Overall it was an experience. The seating looks attractive, but I don’t think it will be comfortable to sit for a long time. The burgers are delicious, although they don’t serve pork burger with streaky bacon like I had hoped for. Will I return? Probably not. Unless they change their smoking policy, and provide a friendlier space for non-smokers, I think once is enough.
