April 7, 2013 | Bali, Italian Cuisine, With Pork

Originally, we wanted to have lunch at La Sal, but one thing led to another and we arrived at La Sal after 3PM and they were already closed for lunch. So, we ended up having lunch at Trattoria instead. I’d been to Trattoria in Jakarta, but this is my first time in Bali. Trattoria is a very popular Italian eatery in Seminyak area and usually very packed at dinner time. Fortunately, we came during a quiet hour at Trattoria, so we easily got our seats. Unfortunately though, they have an open-spaced dining area, which enables every customer to smoke as they please. 🙁

We wanted something quick to satisfy our hunger, but not fill us up too much, so we settled on a portion of Salmone all’erba cippolina (sautéed salmon with spring onion on a bed of potatoes and vegetables) cooked to medium state. As usual, we were given complimentary bread and bruschetta that we can nibble while waiting for our main meal. Not long after that, our order came. The salmon was cooked medium, which means the texture is somewhere between salmon sashimi and well-done grilled salmon. We love it! The texture and flavor of the fish was great. The sauce was tasty and the sautéed vegetable was generous and tasted good.

We’re satisfied with our lunch that afternoon. The service was also good and fast. If only they have a designated non-smoking area, we’ll return more often.

These days, I cook salmon only this way. I don’t know that it’s called ‘medium’.

It’s easy to NOT overcook salmon, and yet… Man, if I had a rupiah every time a restaurant overcooks a salmon…
